China UnionPay has announced that several Canadian merchants now accept the company's mobile QuickPass, which marks the debut of this service in North America. Previously, QuickPass has been accepted at over 220,000 point-of-sale terminals in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore and Australia.

UnionPay did not reveal in a press release specific merchants accepting QuickPass, but mentioned restaurants, hotels, retail outlets, supermarkets, and convenience stores will accept both QuickPass chip cards or mobile QuickPass-enabled smartphones.

No signature is needed when paying less than 100 CAD with UnionPay debit cards, and no PIN nor signature is required when paying less than 100 CAD with UnionPay credit cards.
