Uber Eats to screen for food allergies, end automatic utensils and straws

Uber Eats is launching an initiative to make the food delivery business healthier and more sustainable, announcing that it will add allergy-friendly filters to the app to help millions of consumers with allergy restrictions or dietary restrictions find a suitable restaurant, according to a blogpost from Emilie Boman, head of global policy.

The allergy filter will let customers communicate their specific allergy or food restrictions through the app, and if the restaurant can't immediately accommodate a customer request, they can message customers through the app to help them with an alternative order.

In addition, the delivery service will in the coming month require customers to specifically request utensils, straws and other additional items when placing an order through the app. Uber said that restaurants using the service should no longer include them by default.
