Snappay enables Canadian, US merchants to accept Alipay, Wechat Pay

Snappay Inc., a Toronto-based international payments gateway, announced that small and medium-sized businesses will now be able to accept payments from Chinese mobile wallets Alipay and Wechat Pay.

Snappay offers Canadian and U.S. merchants a way to rapidly integrate China's two leading mobile wallet providers into their POS terminals. Once Snappay integrates the digital wallets with merchants, millions of Chinese travelers are able to pay for overseas purchases with digital currency, and the merchant is compensated in U.S. or Canadian dollars.

"By offering Alipay and Wechat Pay, Canadian and U.S. small and large businesses are enhancing the shopping, dining and entertainment experience, while saving money for millions of Chinese shoppers, visitors and students," Spencer Xu, CEO of Snappay, said the announcement.

Statistics from Destination Canada shows that 737,000 Chinese traveled to Canada in 2018, which is double the figure from 2013.
