PayPal debuts offline payment app for the UK
A week after announcing retail partners in the U.S., PayPal has announced it has also lined up merchants in the U.K. who will offer customers the option to use their PayPal accounts to pay at the point of sale.
PayPal account holders in Britain will now be able to use a new "PayPal In Store" app to pay for offline purchases at four U.K. retailers: Coast, Oasis, Warehouse and Karen Millen.
The new app, available for both iOS and Android devices, links to a PayPal account and produces a barcode on the phone's screen that can be scanned to pay for purchases. A video of the app in action is below:
According to a post on the company's U.K. blog, the service will launch on May 31 and will be available in 230 stores nationwide.
