Migrant video provider turns to Bango for mobile payment solution

SyQic, which provides country-themed video content, will partner with direct carrier biller Bango to let customers buy content on their mobile devices.

Through its "Yoonic" brand, SyQuic serves international migrant audiences with content from their "home" countries. The new partnership, which will be fully integrated in November, will allow global Yoonic users to securely purchase mobile videos using a variety of payment methods, including operator billing, credit, debit and pre-paid cards.

Operator billing lets users charge the cost of a purchase to their phone bill, often in one click, and is emerging as the payment method of choice for many of the giants of mobile, particularly in markets with relatively low credit card penetration, according to Bango.

Yoonic streams video over 70 "live" channels, the company said, and has 20,000 hours of video on demand to choose from, including news, current affairs, sports, concerts, movies and drama series. Content is available in more than 17 languages, ranging from Arabic, Punjabi and Hindi to Indonesian, Malaysian and Korean. SyQic said it continues to build its content inventory and plans to have one of the largest repositories of international content in the world.

Yoonic offers an interactive viewing experience, the company said, with a search function over its on-demand library and repository of live-TV channels. The service is accessible via mobile devices, PCs and tablets, the company said, and it will also incorporate social networking, blogging and gaming in the coming months.

Bango provides payment and analytics on the mobile Web for clients such as Amazon, BlackBerry World, Facebook, Firefox Marketplace, Google Play, Windows Phone Store and major mobile brands, including CNN, Cartoon Network and EA Mobile, according to a news release.

"Bango's ability to process a wide variety of payment methods and its geographical service footprint are strategic assets for Yoonic to scale rapidly across the world," Jamal Hassim, SyQic Group CEO, said in the release.

"Digital merchants of all kinds are embracing Bango operator billing as the fast-track to mobile monetization," Bango CEO Ray Anderson said. "The democratized payment tool of phone and phone bill is perfectly suited to Yoonic's huge content portfolio and diverse customer base."
