Mercury Payments buys Sundrop Mobile

Demonstrating the increased overlap of mobile payments and loyalty, payment processor Mercury Payment Systems announced it has acquired Sundrop Mobile, a mobile and social loyalty marketing company.

"Sundrop's forward-thinking loyalty product is seamlessly integrated to point-of-sale systems, making it a perfect match for Mercury," said Mercury CEO Matt Taylor in the announcement.

Taylor said his company has been at the forefront of POS-integrated payments acceptance, with its technology now built into more than 500 systems. He said the acquisition will leverage Mercury's developer channel presence to lead the way in integrated POS mobile and social marketing.

Once integrated, Mercury's POS partner network will begin offering their merchant customers an innovative mobile loyalty solution from Sundrop that also integrates with Mercury's secure payment processing platform.

Beta POS integrations of the new Mercury loyalty product are underway, the company said, with full details of the rollout to come.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but Sundrop CEO Travis Priest will join Mercury as vice president of loyalty and lead Mercury's strategy and execution, the company said.
