Idemia, a French-based firm that specializes in augmented identity, has acquired X-Core Technologies' metal payment card business and associated patents, according to a press release. It plans to supplement its existing product line with the cards, which are suitable for contactless payments. 

Idemia said the Smart Metal Art cards are designed for the dual interface mass affluent market and are certified by Visa, Mastercard and American Express. 

"Payment cards are the latest marketing asset for banks for customer acquisition," Amanda Gorbault, executive vice president for financial institutions activities at Idemia, said in the release. "Acquiring X-Core is entirely consistent with Idemia’s strategy to offer cutting edge technology to its customers without ever compromising on security or convenience."
