Another smartwatch, another 'Pay' as Garmin Pay debuts

A day after FitBit introduced a new smartwatch capable of making contactless payments, Garmin has introduced its own device with the same capability.

The vivoactive 3 is a smartwatch featuring Garmin Pay, which supports Visa and MasterCard payment cards, according to multiple reports.

Garmin has partnered with FitPay to enable vivoactive 3 to add payment credentials to the smartwatch to make NFC payments at compatible point-of-sale terminals.

"Our team is extremely excited to be working with Garmin to enable Garmin Pay,"  said Michael Orlando, president of FitPay, said in the release. "The inspiration behind FitPay's drive to enable payments on a whole new generation of devices came while on a bike ride wearing my Garmin."

FitPay is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NXT-ID Inc., a provider of payment, credential management, and authentication platform services.
